#ONTHEMENDSHADOWS | PHOTO MOVEMENT

Depression is like a shadow that follows a depressed person everywhere, sometimes faint and sometimes overwhelming. But with shadows, there is also light. Depression isn't complete darkness - it is light struggling to shine through the darkness.

Join On The Mend in encouraging men with Depression to seek help! Using photography, inspire those struggling with Depression to seek treatment and start being on the mend. Take a picture following the theme "Shadows: Light in the Dark" to encourage men with Depression to be on the mend. Show them that light can shine through when they seek for it.

We're giving away a GoPro Hero 5 for the most creative entry.
Contest ends 26 February 2017, 11.59 pm.

Solitude

The work shows a distinct act of juxtaposition contrasting between light and shadow. But it's clearly seen that when men are in the spotlight, they feel complete solitude, clearly portraying that even when men appears to be fine, they could be facing depression. To reach out and lend a helping hand, then will men face their troubles both in light and darkness.

Barrier

The work arise from the act of being depressed, of which a men emotions are being pressed down. The physical barrier displayed in the photograph investigates a range of psychological impact upon him. But only with light, will then a person find comfort and thus, the abstract shape of the glass pieces that allow light to come in portrays that, help for these men can come in many different ways but only to the viewer's mind when he/she contemplates it.

No matter where you go, passion follows.
"I've discovered that even in the darkest of times, Light paves the way through the darkest of shadows. We only need to know where to look for it."
Light always shines bright when it's in darkness // Pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pain: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world.
- C.S. Lewis
The ‘assumed’ societal judgements towards any man with depression could deny him the courage to seek help, and this is harmful.
I hope to communicate through my photos on how a man feels when he is isolated in his bare state. The strong sense of loneliness and abandonment in this series of photos seeks to illustrate that he oftens closes himself off from others due to the wrong perceptions of many that men are strong. There are often many thoughts and problems running in his head and people are often oblivious to the despondency behind one’s front.
The title of this photo series is, “Bare, Him”.
